Join us for a fantastic cycling trip from the majestic Dolomites in Italy, via South Tyrol and over the border into Austria, before crossing into Slovenia and ending by the sea in beautiful Trieste.

On this 5-day trip, you will cycle through some of Europe's most spectacular landscapes: dramatic mountain passes, idyllic valleys and cultural landscapes in South Tyrol, the green Gail Valley, the Austrian Lake Pressegg and magical Lake Bled – before the coastal breeze from the Adriatic Sea welcomes you to Trieste.

In short: 5 days, 3 countries, 3 cuisines, 310–350 kilometers, and unforgettable impressions around every turn.

Quick facts about the trip

The daily stages vary between 75 and 120 km, with several route options on the longest daily stages. The route goes through hilly and spectacular terrain in three countries, with some longer climbs – challenging, but manageable for most people.

Luggage is transported from hotel to hotel, so you can enjoy cycling without heavy packing.
All breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are included.

For this trip, we recommend a road bike or an electric road bike. You choose the bike type when registering.

The trip starts in South Tyrol and takes you from the majestic Dolomites, into Austria and on to the Slovenian Alps and the idyllic Lake Bled, before you finish your last day at the charming Italian town of Gradisca. In other words, there will be four full cycling days. Guaranteed to leave you with many memories!

Breakfast at the hotel before today's stage starts at the watershed between the rivers Drau and Rienz, at Toblacher Sattel, the mountain pass between Italy and Austria.
The first kilometer from Hochpustertal to Abfaltersbach in East Tyrol (Austria) gives us a gentle start. But, soon the climbs that test us a bit await, where we must find our flow and keep focus!
Eventually, we reach the beautiful valleys of Lesachtal and Gailtal, a postcard-perfect landscape. The contrasts between the raw nature and small, charming Alpine villages are fantastic. We will have lunch at a suitable place along the way (included).

Today's final climb is up to Gailbergsattel, before we roll down to Oberdrauburg and our next accommodation. Pure cycling joy!
Check-in and joint dinner in the hotel's restaurant (included).

After a good breakfast, it's back on the bike saddle. We follow the river Gail southwards, cycling through small, charming villages where time seems to pass a bit slower.
If we are lucky with the weather, we will choose to take the boat across lake Weißensee and eat a packed picnic on board... (tickets not included). An alternative to the boat is to cycle via Pressegger See. Magical routes either way!!

After a while, we reach lake Farchtensee, and then continue cycling through the valley with small, cozy villages. Eventually, we arrive at today's destination: Feistritz in Austria.
Check-in before joint dinner in the hotel's restaurant (included).

Day 4Feistritz (Austria) – Bled (Slovenia)

Vakre Lake Bled i Slovenia | Sykkeltur med Expa Travel

Shortly after leaving Feistritz and Carinthia, we reach the border of Slovenia and continue towards Tarvisio. After a comfortable start to the stage, we begin the climb up to Passo del Predil. A climb of approx. 6.5 km, with an average gradient of a relatively comfortable 6%.
This majestic mountain pass marks the border between Italy and Slovenia. The abandoned border post signals the end of the climb, and then we head down in a magical descent with several curves.

We then begin the legendary climb up to the Vršič Pass, where the road winds upwards through hairpin turns and spectacular nature. We pedal through Triglav National Park, in the heart of the Julian Alps, through the towns of Kranjska Gora and Jesenice.
Here, some of the most spectacular natural experiences await us: emerald green lakes, roaring waterfalls, and deep ravines – all with Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain, as a majestic backdrop.

As an alternative, if you do not wish to cycle over the mountains at the Vršič Pass, you can follow a nice bike path into the valley from Tarvisio directly to Kranjska Gora. The total ride will then be approx. 65 km and with much less elevation gain... We will have lunch at a suitable place along the way (included).

The day ends perfectly by the fairytale Lake Bled with its special atmosphere. After-bike and reflection on today's epic cycling stage.

Check-in and relaxation before joint dinner (included).

Eventually, we reach the town of Kobarid (Slovenia) where we cross the border back into Italy and the historic town of Gradisca. Here we get the opportunity to shower at a hotel.
