Friends' trip – Selvaggio Blu – Sardinia's most legendary hike

Selvaggio Blu – raw nature experience along Sardinia's coast

NB! This is a booked tour, and therefore only for specially invited guests

Selvaggio Blu – a different kind of hike in Sardinia!

In 2026, Arnstein & Gry are once again inviting their group of friends on new adventures!
This time to Sardinia and Selvaggio Blu, a famous and demanding route along the untouched coast of Sardinia. It stretches over approximately 40 kilometers through some of the island's most remote and beautiful landscapes. Although the trail is not technically difficult, it offers challenges with steep climbs and rough terrain. This part of Sardinia is only accessible on foot – and many describe the experience as one of Europe's finest hikes. A real Kinder surprise: spectacular, beautiful, and just the right amount of challenging.

NB! The trip starts with an overnight stay in Rome for sightseeing and a pleasant dinner before you fly onward to Sardinia / Cagliari.

The Terrain

The terrain is highly varied, from well-trodden paths to sharp limestone, passages through Mediterranean vegetation, and sheer cliffs. During the first two days, you will adapt to the environment and the rhythm. You will gradually learn to move lightly and agilely, avoid thorny branches, and navigate safely.

Each day, there will be an opportunity for a refreshing dip in one of the many beautiful coves of the famous, azure-blue water. Along the way, you will visit places like Cala Fenile, Portu Pedrosu, Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Portu Mudaloru, Cala Biriala, and Cala Sisine. Spectacular places that you can only reach by boat, or as you are doing, on foot. Paradise!

The level of difficulty increases gradually over the last three days, when you will also encounter some simple climbing passages where you must use ropes and double-rappelling. You have the option to choose an easier route. A choice you must make the day before.

Quick info about the trip

This is without a doubt a trip for those who love outdoor adventures! You don't need to be in peak physical condition, but some preparation is required. A few weekly hikes beforehand with plenty of elevation gain are necessary. You must also function well socially in a group and enjoy camping in nature. Flexibility and adaptability are essential.

Along the way, there will be some challenging sections, so a bit of skill in control, balance, and confidence when placing your feet is required. In the slightly more technical sections, the experienced mountain guides will give you all the necessary guidance and securing you need to handle the passages safely! You will get close to nature, the local culture, and are guaranteed to make new memories.

The trip is conducted with a certified, highly experienced Italian mountain guide. If you prefer an easier route on some of the days, we will split the group in two. This is a choice you make the day before, during the evening briefing. The group that might choose an alternative route also walks with a guide.

Basic standards

We start the trip with a stop in Rome and overnight accommodation in the center of this fantastic city. Here we stay at a 3* hotel. Accommodation in Sardinia is simple, with stays at a B&B hotel on the first and last nights. For the remaining nights, you will spend two nights in tents without facilities like a shower and toilet, and two nights at a campsite "under cover" in simple cabins where we also have access to a shower and toilet. During the hike, you will carry your own smaller daypack, 30 – 40 liters, with what you need during the day, such as technical equipment, water, energy bars, and a packed lunch. The lighter, the better. The rest of your luggage will be transported to the coordinates of the different camps.

On the starting day, you will be given a 60-liter container in which you will pack your personal luggage, as well as your sleeping bag and mattress. This will then be transported to the overnight camps.

Day 3Santa Maria Navarrese - Ovile us Piggius

Pedra Longa Beach, Selvaggio Blu | Expa Travel

Today's leg is a nice "warm-up" for the coming days. After leaving the coastal village, you head north for about an hour and a half on a beautiful path. The path leads you to the famous (and beautiful) cliff Pedra Longa, which is also the official start of Selvaggio Blu.

When you reach the impressive rock wall of Punta Giradili, a short break will probably be fitting. Here you will also find a small detour for a swim in the hidden and crystal-clear water at the cove of Cala Fenile.

With renewed energy, you then head up along the Giradili cliff towards Ovile Us Piggius. From here you must put on your technical gear and climb the wall of Punta Giradili, on its less steep side. You will be well looked after the entire time by local, certified guides.

The summit is reached after climbing/hiking through both vegetation and intricate passages. Once at the top, the group eventually returns to the Ovile for a typical Sardinian dinner, made with wonderful local ingredients!

Here we stay "under roof" in a simple building, with access to a basic shower and toilet.

Day 4From Ovile us Piggius to Genne E'Modregu

Deltakerne som går Selvaggio Blu kommer fra hele verden | Expa Travel

A quite long and varied stage with great diversity in the surroundings. Today features forest, rocky areas, climbing walls, and hidden beaches. You leave Ovile di Us Piggius, and after passing the Ginnirco mountain, you move down towards the cliffs. From here you get a fantastic view of the distance covered, AND the one that remains!

A steep descent with mixed vegetation, followed by a long traverse along the mountain side leads you to the entrance of Bacu Tenadili. A "bacu" is a canyon carved out by water, but now dry, extending from inland to the sea. During this trip you will see several of these. Some can be a bit challenging to pass through.

To enter Bacu Tenadili you follow an old path. To exit on the other side you have to climb. Technically easy climbing, but with ropes for safety. Spectacular nature!

After packing your gear back into your backpack, a one-hour descent to Portu Pedrosu awaits. There you can also take a well-deserved dip in the sea. After swimming and resting, you continue walking for about 3 hours in the direction of Punta Salinas.

A fantastic terrace by the sea will be your camping spot for this night (tent camp).

Today's stage will be spectacular, as we enter the very 'heart' of Selvaggio Blu.
After leaving the Salinas plateau, we walk down together towards Cala Goloritzè and its stunning beach, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

After a wonderful swim, you put on harnesses and helmets to follow the famous “Su Ledere”. These are exposed ledge paths over the sea, a Via Ferrata that literally hangs above the azure-blue waters.

At the end of the Via Ferrata, there is a long traverse before descending down to Cala Mariolu. A fantastic beach where we overnight in a tent camp, with access to simple shower and toilet facilities.

If you thought the first days were spectacular, if possible, the next days are even better!
At Cala Mariolu you leave the main path and continue on the panoramic traverse towards the Mudaloru caves. A 40-meter abseil takes you down to the giant caves, and further to Portu Mudaloru bay. A mandatory stop for lunch and a refreshing swim.

Fresh and rested, you then embark on a relatively strenuous climb up a slope, to further take a traverse through forest, short climbing sections, and abseils leading to the famous Su Feilau. From here, it will take about 40 minutes to climb up along Bacu Su Padente to reach the Ololbissi accommodation.

Another magical day ends with a tent camp (no access to shower and toilet - ocean and nature are used).

Last but not least! The final day is a mixture of sheer "cliff balconies" with views over the precipice, narrow channels to be crossed, small caves, and long abseils up to 45 meters long.

Today is the last stage of the trek, finishing at Cala Sisine. A worthy conclusion to this unforgettable week, filled with both effort and immense satisfaction!
If time permits, there will be a small detour to one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful coves: Cala Biriola. It can only be reached by boat or by a 40-meter abseil straight down to the beach.

After completing the trek, you will be picked up by RIB boat and taken back to Santa Maria (where we started the trip on the first day).
Overnight stay at the same B&B as the first day.

Shared final dinner at a cozy, local restaurant in the town of Santa Teresa. We believe the dinner on this last evening will feel very special – what a week you have behind you!
