Join us for a fantastic week of hiking in some of the most beautiful mountain regions of Slovenia. We will walk through green valleys, across alpine meadows, and past clear mountain lakes – from peaceful Jezersko to the iconic lakes Bled and Bohinj. A varied and scenic tour in a small group with a Norwegian tour leader from Expa Travel.

Over 8 days, you will partake in beautiful and varied hikes that combine lakes, high-mountain plateaus, green alpine pastures, and small, peaceful mountain villages. Along the way, we will have plenty of time to enjoy local traditions, stunning viewpoints, and the relaxed rhythm of alpine village life.
This tour has a maximum of 8 participants. Led by a Norwegian tour leader from Expa Travel who knows the area well and ensures wonderful experiences along the way.

Who is this trip suitable for?

This trip is suitable for those who enjoy hiking in the mountains and appreciate varied landscapes – from lakes and forests to high mountains and valleys. You do not need to be in peak physical condition, but you should be used to walking for several consecutive hours on trails, with moderate elevation gains. You must also be comfortable carrying a daypack on your back.

The trip is well-suited for couples, friends, and solo travelers who want an active holiday – and who enjoy being outside for large parts of the day in a small group with a tour leader.

Day 1Arrival Jezersko

Transfer from Ljubljana airport to Jezersko, a beautiful and tranquil alpine valley in northern Slovenia, surrounded by the impressive mountains of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps and the Karawanks.

Here we check into our hotel and get some time to settle in after the journey. Jezersko is a small and charming mountain area with green meadows, clear streams, and traditional alpine houses scattered across the landscape.

In the evening, we gather for a nice dinner and a short briefing on the week's hikes before our adventure in the Slovenian Alps begins in earnest the next day.

Day 2Hike to Češka Koča

Today we start our hiking adventure in earnest. The route goes up through the forest and further up towards the tree line to Češka Koča, one of Slovenia's oldest and most charming mountain huts. The hut has stood here for over a hundred years and is beautifully situated with views of two alpine valleys stretching into the mountains.

This is a perfect place for a break/lunch before we walk on. The view from here is wide and open, and on clear days, it is a fantastic spot for photography.

On the way back, we follow a route past Shepherds Lake, a small and peaceful mountain lake where the surrounding mountains are reflected in the water. Then we return to Jezersko.

Day 3Virnikov Grintavec

Today's hike goes to Virnikov Grintavec, a great peak in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. This is a slightly less visited hike, but with fantastic views.

We start near Jezersko and first walk through forest before the landscape opens up to green alpine meadows. As we get higher up, we get increasingly wider views of both the Karawanks and the Julian Alps.

The last section up to the summit is a bit steeper, but the view makes the effort well worth it. At the top, we get a great panoramic view of the surrounding mountains before returning the same way to Jezersko.

Today there is no mountain hut for lunch, so we must bring a packed lunch (not included).

Day 4Ljubelj to Begunje

After breakfast, we have a short transfer to Ljubelj, on the border between Slovenia and Austria. This is where today's hike begins.

The trail first goes through a historical tunnel, which was once dug out by merchants to shorten the journey between Carniola and Carinthia. On the other side, we follow old alpine pasture paths down through the quiet Draga valley.

The hike ends in the small village of Begunje, known as the home of the famous musician Slavko Avsenik and the popular Oberkrainer music. If we have time, we can also take a short trip to the ruins of Kamen Castle, which bear witness to the area's long history.

No huts for lunch on the hike itself, but in Begunje there are several places. A packed lunch is wise to have in your backpack today (not included).

Day 5The Karawanks to Bled

Today we hike along the foot of the Karawanks with great views towards the Julian Alps. The hike starts with a gentle climb up to St. Peter’s Church, which in its time was used as a lookout point during the Turkish raids in the area.

From there, we follow trails through a beautiful cultural landscape with meadows, small farms, and open viewpoints facing the mountains around us. This is a quiet and scenic hike where we can truly enjoy the landscape.

The hike ends at Lake Bled, one of Slovenia's most famous lakes. Here, the small church island lies in the middle of the water, with the old castle high up on the cliff overlooking the town.

We stay overnight at a comfortable 4-star hotel in Bled, where we can relax after a lovely day in the mountains.

No huts for lunch on the hike itself, but there are several places in Bled. Feel free to bring a packed lunch (not included).

Day 6Pokljuka Plateau

After breakfast, we take a short transfer up to the Pokljuka plateau (approx. 1280 m above sea level), a large forested and mountainous area in the Julian Alps. Here we walk through dense spruce forests and over open mountain pastures before reaching the Lipanska hut, which is a nice spot for a break and perhaps a simple mountain lunch (not included). In the afternoon, we follow a panoramic trail with great views of the Karawanks, the Pokljuka plateau, the Krma valley, and the Bohinj mountains. A varied and scenic hike in one of Slovenia's most beautiful mountain regions.

Day 7Uskovnica to Bohinj

Today's hike starts from the Uskovnica saddle on the Pokljuka plateau. From here, we follow paths through traditional alpine pasture areas with old mountain farms and open alpine meadows.

Along the way, we stop at a viewpoint with a great outlook down towards the Bohinj valley and the surrounding mountains. Afterwards, the journey continues down through the historic village of Studor, where the old wooden houses still bear witness to a traditional mountain life.

The hike ends at Lake Bohinj, one of the most beautiful lakes in Triglav National Park. Here, the mountains are reflected in the clear water, and the village by the lake provides a pleasant setting for the end of today's hike.
