Easy hiking among lakes and valleys in Slovenia – Triglav National Park

A small country with great variety

Slovenia is one of those countries that surprises you from the very first moment. Small in size, but with a variety that means you can have breakfast in the Alps, hike through incredibly beautiful, green valleys and waterfalls in the middle of the day – and catch an espresso by the Adriatic Sea in the evening.

This is the trip for those who want to experience Slovenia's most beautiful valleys, lakes, and alpine villages on foot, without it being technically demanding. The hikes go through the most famous alpine towns and villages in Slovenia, as well as Slovenia's only national park. Here we combine peaceful and varied hiking, magnificent nature, and great comfort, with a base at charming 4-star hotels all the way.

We walk along valley floors, forested hillsides, and beside crystal-clear lakes, with views of the Julian Alps almost every day. The pace is comfortable, the trails are varied, and the days offer just the right amount of elevation gain – enough for you to feel that hiking sensation, but with plenty of energy left to enjoy the surroundings.

Fun fact
The Soča Valley has been the backdrop for several films, including Narnia and Eragon – chosen for a landscape that looks almost unreal, even without movie magic.

On your own – but well arranged

This is a self-guided hike, without a tour leader. You walk alone or together with your own travel companions, and manage the days at your own pace. At the same time, the framework is well established: accommodation is pre-booked, necessary transport is organized, and luggage is transported on selected stages. You walk with digital maps and clear route information, making it easy to follow the stages day by day.

Should the need for help arise along the way, you have access to a 24-hour emergency number, and our partner is available if needed. This provides extra security – while you retain the freedom of walking on your own.

Who is this trip suitable for?

This trip is suitable for those who enjoy a combination of easy walks in the valley floor and in forested hillsides. Even though we are in alpine surroundings, no climbing experience or special equipment is required.

The average total ascent per day is between 100 and 400 meters of elevation gain. You do not need to be highly trained, but have a decent level of basic fitness. The daily stages will be somewhat longer on certain days, and the terrain can be uneven with some slopes, but without being particularly demanding.

This is a great first-time alpine trip and is well suited for couples, friends, or solo travelers who want nature experiences and comfort.

The trail leads further into the lush Jasna Valley, with open sections and beautiful views towards the prominent peaks of Prisank and Razor.
The hike is varied and comfortable, with a good flow and plenty of nature experiences. On the way back, you will pass the Russian Chapel, built in memory of Russian prisoners of war who lost their lives during the construction of the military road over the Vršič Pass during World War I. A quiet and thought-provoking stop that adds extra depth to the trip.

Today's hike goes through varied and beautiful terrain, through forests and open mountain meadows, before the trail leads you up to the summit of Peč (1508 m above sea level). Here, at a very special spot, the borders of Slovenia, Italy, and Austria meet (Dreilaendereck) – a natural highlight both geographically and experientially.

At the top, a rarely matched beautiful reward awaits. There is a fantastic view in all directions; we are talking about the Julian Alps, the Carnic Alps, and all the way to Hohe Tauern, Austria's highest mountain range. Here you must take some time to stop, catch your breath, and really take in the feeling of standing in the middle of the Alps.

The hike then continues gently downwards through the valley, in a softer and greener landscape. Along the way, you reach the source of the Sava, Slovenia's longest river – before returning to Kranjska Gora.

This is one of the most scenic days of the trip – with many 'Kodak moments' along the way.

The climb is short and manageable, and the reward is great: an iconic panorama over the entire Lake Bled – one of Slovenia's most photographed viewpoints.
