The route in brief
The journey starts in Sabrosa, in the heart of the wine region where vines cover the hillsides and small farms lie close together. This will be your first taste of the Douro Valley – both in the glass and in the surrounding landscape. The walk begins gently, with the opportunity to visit a local olive oil producer offering tastings straight from the press.
Then the route continues towards the wine village of Provesende, known for its old stone houses and traditional bakeries. Here you get a lovely insight into daily life in the valley before continuing downwards towards Pinhão – the very heart of the Douro. In Pinhão, wine tasting at a vineyard and a boat trip on the Douro River in a classic rabelo boat, which once transported wine barrels down to Porto, await you.
The next stop is Ucanha, where you wander between vineyards, a monastery, and old stone bridges. Here you can taste local sparkling wine and enjoy a good meal after the day's stage.
In Lamego, there will be a bit more city life – cozy squares, small restaurants, and wine bars serving both local food and Douro wines.
The final stage goes to Cambres, surrounded by vineyards and panoramic views of the valley. Here the tour concludes with one last wine tasting at a vineyard – a wonderful end to an active week filled with impressions and great flavors.
