Food & Wine Tours
Italy
Join a wine safari in Italy! On this tour, you will cycle from winery to winery through Abruzzo's beautiful wine regions. Along the way, you will enjoy the scenery, the local food – and, of course, the excellent wines.
The landscape is rolling, the roads are quiet, and traffic is limited. Over time, the proximity to Rome has created many small, exciting medieval towns, filled with castles, fortresses, and each with its own history.
For the last three days of the tour, you will follow the Adriatic coast, with long beaches and daily stops for wine tasting.
Your luggage? It is transported between hotels – you cycle light and free.
The daily stages are approximately 35 to 65 km, with the option of extra loops for those who want more kilometers or slightly tougher challenges along the way. The route is through hilly terrain, but without the most demanding climbs.
In other words, this is a tour that suits almost anyone who loves local food, wine, great scenery, and an active holiday.
When registering, you easily choose which type of bike you want: an e-bike or a regular road bike.
This tour is also available as a 6-day tour, which you can see more about here.
The minimum number of participants is 8 people.
Abruzzo is a region few outside of Italy know well, but which truly has great experiences to offer. Here you will find medieval towns with exciting histories, high mountains, long beaches, and a rolling landscape perfect for cycling.
Abruzzo is located in the heart of Italy, and the inland is dominated by the Apennines mountain range, with peaks up to 3000 meters above sea level. The region is known for its large national parks with rich flora and fauna.
From the highest mountains to the coast, there is a wide network of exciting cycling routes – mostly on roads with limited traffic, surrounded by spectacular nature.
The tour is designed for you to cycle on your own for 8 days / 7 nights.
Upon arrival, you will meet our English-speaking partner who will go through all the stages in detail. You will then navigate via an app on your phone (or via GPS files that can be uploaded to your own Garmin). Paper maps are not distributed.

This day's stage is a loop that goes through a hilly landscape around the Theatine hills. This is the area in Italy with the most winemakers per square kilometer.
During the day, there will be tastings of wines produced from the Montepulciano, Trebbiano, and Cerasuolo grapes. You will pass the following winemakers: Cantine Maligni, Sincarpa, Ruvido Wines, Ripa Teatina, Di Sipio, Rapino, Pasetti, as well as several other smaller producers. There will be a wine tasting at one of these producers.
When you enter the town of Chieti, the old town is well worth a visit, along with the San Giustino Cathedral.
In the neighboring town of Ripa Teatina, you cycle past the statue of the town's famous son: Rocky Marciano. There are multiple options for lunch stops at some of the many farm restaurants located in the area.
After an exciting day, there will be a few hours of relaxation before dinner at one of the local restaurants along the promenade (incl.).

After breakfast, you pack your luggage and leave it at reception before today's stage begins. This will probably be the most demanding stage of the trip. Today, you cycle towards the mighty Majella mountains – beautiful!
Along the way, you pass the town of Crecchio, which in the 1940s housed the Royal Family of Savoy in its famous castle.
Once you arrive at Semivicoli, you check in at a 'relais' situated right among the grape vines.
During dinner, there will be a wine tasting of the "house" wines (dinner and wine tasting included in the price).

Heading towards the mountains, you encounter fantastic scenery. Expect the terrain to be hilly today as well, as there will be both cycling and a shorter hike. You cycle on a smaller road towards Abbazia (large church) San Liberatore a Maiella. Here you park your bike for a wonderful hike along the Alento River.
Back at the bikes, you set off towards the Vecchio Tratturo winery for a wine tasting.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant is included in the price.

Today you cycle back down to the coast, known as Costa dei Trabocchi. A Trabocco is a unique fishing platform converted into a restaurant. On the way down to the coast, you pass the Frentana winery among others. There will be a stop and tasting here before you continue through the town of Lanciano, and further onto the medieval castle Rocca San Giovanni. From here, you get a fantastic view of the sea.
Check-in at a hotel within walking distance of the beach. Time for sun & swimming before dinner.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

This day, you follow the fantastic bike path that goes south along the coast. This is a former railway line that has recently been converted into a bicycle path. You pass the towns of Torino di Sangro, Casalbordino, the Punta Aderci nature reserve, and Vasto Marino. Make sure to cycle up to the old town in Vasto. Fantastic views over the coast, where you can see all the special Trabocchi that characterize this coastline.
On the way back (the same way), you stop for a wine tasting at one of the wineries: Terre D’Erce, Fontefico, Jasci e Marchesani, or Jasci Donatello.
Tonight's dinner is on a Trabocco below the hotel (included in the price).

After breakfast, you pack your luggage and leave it at reception before setting off north. Today's trip ends in Francavilla. The largest town on the way is Ortona. Stopping at the old Aragonesse castle is a must. After Ortona, it is time for the final winery stop of this trip. Here, you cycle slightly inland on smaller roads that lead you to the vineyards.
Dinner at a restaurant (included).

Check-out from the hotel after breakfast and departure to the airport.
