Alpine passes, lakes, and small Italian towns
This tour offers a very special variety. From Geneva we head towards the Alps, and for the next eight days of cycling, we move from place to place through Switzerland and Northern Italy. The landscape changes almost hour by hour – from high mountains and long alpine passes to beautiful lakes, vineyards, valleys, and small Italian towns.
Along the way, we cycle over the mighty Simplon Pass and continue along Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, and Lake Como. From there, we continue through Valtellina, via Edolo and up towards Passo Tonale, before eventually leaving the highest mountains behind us and heading through Trentino and Veneto towards the Adriatic Sea.
Some days will involve a lot of elevation gain and long climbs. Other days will be faster through the valleys and along the lakes. And this is Italy, so the breaks are of course a part of the trip. An espresso on the square, an ice-cold drink along the way, or a good lunch at a local trattoria before we get back on the bike.
Cycling shoes, mountain passes, and new places every day
We have no fixed base here. Every morning we pack our suitcases, get on our bikes, and continue our journey eastward – while our luggage is, of course, transported to the next hotel.
There is something quite special about arriving at a new place by bike. After the day's kilometers and elevation gain, we check in, put our feet up for a bit, and experience a new town or valley before gathering for dinner.
Thus, the journey continues day by day. From the Alps and the great Italian lakes, through Valtellina and the areas surrounding the Dolomites, and further towards Veneto. And after eight days on the bike, we conclude the entire adventure by the Adriatic Sea and Venice.
