Cycling holiday in the Moselle Valley - on your own

Cycling tour in the Moselle Valley – vineyards, medieval towns and cycling joy

Beautiful surroundings, light traffic, good hotels, and flat terrain

The Moselle Valley in Germany offers much that many other cycling destinations cannot. This beautiful area is truly a paradise for those who love cycling holidays with good hotels, nice, flat cycle paths, minimal traffic, great food & wine, cozy towns, and not least, beautiful scenery.

Quick facts about the trip

From Germany's oldest city to the banks of the Rhine – this tour takes you through some of the Moselle Valley's most atmospheric places.

Start in Trier
The journey begins in historic Trier, with Roman ruins, wine bars in cozy streets, and the story of Karl Marx. From there, you follow the river into the heart of the wine regions – to small towns where Riesling is a source of pride and livelihood. Piesport and Bernkastel-Kues offer half-timbered houses, warm town squares, and views of vineyards on steep hillsides.

Medieval castles and vineyards
Next awaits Traben-Trarbach, an elegant spa town with Art Nouveau style and wine tasting on every corner. The route winds through the iconic Zeller Hamm, past medieval castles and Europe's steepest vineyard before you roll into Cochem – famous for its fortress and the spectacular Reichsburg looming over the town.
The final stage leads you through small villages and up to the fairy-tale Eltz Castle, before you reach Koblenz – where the Moselle and Rhine meet. The cable car over the river and the view from the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress put the finishing touch on the experience.

A trip full of culture, wine tradition, vibrant small towns, and iconic landscapes – perfectly packaged into daily stages that give you new impressions every single day.

Luggage is transported from hotel to hotel

And while you enjoy yourself on your bike along the river in the Moselle Valley, taking in the surroundings, having a nice lunch, and stopping wherever you wish, your luggage will be transported to the next hotel.

Cycle at your own pace

With daily stages of approx. 40 – 50 km per day, you are given great opportunities to stop in several of the exciting, historic towns, visit the famous vineyards, and not least; take a closer look at several of the medieval castles located along the route.

Finding your way is easy, and you decide the speed entirely yourself. It is never far to the next place for tasting a good local Riesling!!

The bikes are comfortable hybrid bikes with a luggage rack. You can hang a bike bag on the bike where you pack whatever you might need during the day. It is also possible to rent an electric bike.

Who is this trip suitable for

The stages on this trip are on flat terrain, on cycle paths, almost the entire way. This is "vacation cycling" at its very best. An experimental trip in a fantastic landscape, where the impressions are just as important as the cycling.

The daily stages are between 40 – 50 km per day, so you do not need extensive cycling preparation. Anyone in normally good shape and with good health can enjoy this trip.

Should you wish to take a day on your own to relax and perhaps soak up some sun & swim instead of what is on the schedule, you naturally have the opportunity to do so along the way.

Excellent flight connections

Flight tickets are not included in the price; you book these yourself.
The nearest airport is Frankfurt, which has excellent flight connections.
From here, public transport runs to the starting point of this trip, Germany's oldest city; Trier.
The trip ends in Koblenz, where public transport will take you back to Frankfurt airport.

The journey lasts over 6 days, with 5 nights of accommodation. Of course, you can travel down earlier or stay a few days after the trip; this is an area where you can spend a lot of time!
