Adventure in the Dolomites, around Sassolungo & into Langental / Vallunga

Magical hikes in the Dolomites!

Seiser Alm and the Dolomites attract visitors from all over the world. It is no wonder, because here you will find unique and beautiful mountains, spectacular views, and cozy mountain huts in places you wouldn't believe anyone could live.
On this trip, we combine spectacular hikes with opportunities for climbing and cycling in the unique Dolomites. Along with delicious local food & drinks.

For our accommodation, we have chosen the cozy, family-run Hotel Armin. A charming place with a good standard, personal service, and - not least - great food.

Our tour leader Anne Grethe T. Vestrheim, who incidentally LOVES the Dolomites, has planned her favorite hikes in Val Gardena for these days. The day trips take place at high altitudes, between approx. 1500 – 3000 m.a.s.l. It goes without saying that both the views and the experiences will be absolutely special!

Quick facts about the trip

This trip is self-guided.

The hikes last 4-6 hours and take place in hilly terrain at an altitude of between 1500 - 3000 m.a.s.l. Expect to spend most of the day out on the trail. You will probably feel the altitude a bit, regardless of your fitness level.

Perhaps there will be some free time in the afternoons / evenings, which can be spent on activities such as sightseeing in the town of Selva di Val Gardena. Or simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the hotel.

You can have your dinners in the hotel restaurant or in one of the three towns in the valley. Lunches are enjoyed at cozy mountain huts / rifugios high up in the mountains - with fantastic views.

Optional excursion - Via Ferrata climbing

On one of the days, you can choose to book an exciting and unforgettable Via Ferrata. You book this through the town's tourist office. For example, we can highly recommend the Via Ferrata Furcela de Saslonch. It starts at Passo Sella and goes up to Rifugio Toni Demez at 2700 m above sea level, between Sasso Loungo and Sasso Piatto. Simply a magical experience. This excursion costs from 210 Euro / person (not included).

Optional excursion - cycling

You can also choose mountain biking, for example at Seiser Alm or Sassolungo (not included). Val Gardena has excellent mountain biking trails. There is an extra cost for this as well, which is paid to the bike rental shop on site. Between 30-70 Euro / person, depending on the type of bike (e-bikes are also available). You can also bring your bike on some of the ski lifts.

Local bus - included

The local bus is the best option for getting to the various starting points for the hikes / activities.
All participants will receive a 'Gardenacard' upon arrival at the hotel, which gives you free local bus travel throughout your stay. The distances to the activities we have planned for this trip are not long.

Day 2Excursion Langkofel / Plattkofel

Langkofelhütta i Dolomittene | Expa Travel

After breakfast, you take the local bus up to Passo Sella, 2180 m above sea level. The bus ride takes approx. 30 minutes. Remember your bus pass!
Here you get a fantastic view towards Sella Ronda and Marmolada!
We recommend taking the well-known and fun telephone booth lifts up to Rifugio Toni Demetz 2690 m above sea level (not included).

The actual hike starts with a descent on gravel to one of our favorite mountain huts: Langkofelhytte / Rifugio Vicenza, 2253 m above sea level. The hut is located on a sort of ledge between Langkofel / Sasso Lungo and Plattkofel/ Sasso Piatto. Here you must stop just to enjoy!
Perhaps a bite to eat and something to drink (not included).
Then you continue the trek, and eventually, you will get a formidable view over Seiser Alm, the mecca of cross-country skiing! The largest alpine high-mountain meadow in Europe.

Next, the route goes towards Mont de Seura, 2025 m above sea level, where you can take the chairlift down to Santa Christina (not included). Or you can challenge yourself by taking the Zipline down (not included)! Highly recommended – it is awesome!

Alternatively, you can follow the path to Langkofel back to Passo Sella where you started, and take the bus back down to the hotel.

Perhaps the day ends with an AFTERHIKE?

Day 3Excursion Langental - Puezhytte - Jimmyhytte - Passo Gardena

Lago Crespeina i Dolomittene | Expa Travel

A long and magical hike awaits!
You walk from the hotel and into an approx. 6 km long valley (hence the name Langental), before the ascent to the Puez hut begins. This hut is located at 2475 m above sea level. Upon arrival at the Puez hut, you have completed 10 km. A lunch stop is recommended here to refuel your energy (not included) before you walk on towards Forcella di Ciampei (2672 m above sea level) and Forcella Crespeina (2528 m above sea level).
Exciting 'wild-west landscape' between sharp limestone formations from there and down to the Jimmy hut (2222 m above sea level).

Perhaps you will have time for an 'afterwalk' at the Jimmy hut, a perfect end to today's long hike (recommended, there is normally a high atmosphere here - often with lederhosen and dirndls) before you take the Dantecerpies lift (not included) down to Selva and stroll to the hotel.
Alternatively, you can walk on foot from the Jimmy hut down to Passo Gardena, and take the bus from there down to the hotel.

Lunch and dinner on your own (not included).

Day 4Col Raiser - Steviahytta

Steviahytta i Dolomittene | Expa Travel

Lift to Col Raiser at 2107 m above sea level (not included), alternatively you can walk directly from the hotel - fully possible, but many meters of elevation gain. The hike from Col Raiser to the Stevia hut is steep, magical, and tough, but so worth it!
Take it easy up the winding curves on a gravel path to the top. In the last part of the steep pass, you walk on paths with clear traces from World War I.
A well-deserved rest at the top of Forcella dla Piza (2489 m above sea level), to catch your breath and enjoy the view, which is formidable! It is called "The Window to the Valley".

Then you walk for approx. 20 minutes on a gentle downhill slope all the way to the Stevia hut. The hut is relatively small and scenic. View down towards Langental. No lifts here. AWESOME!
Lunch stop (not included) and time to enjoy at the hut before you have a section of descent. Steep, but not dangerous. On this day, having hiking poles is a plus.

You can walk back down to the hotel on nice green meadows, preferably with breaks and replenishments of whatever you might wish for at one of the huts along the way.

Lunch and dinner on your own (not included).
