The Hardangerfjord round trip by bicycle

Around the Hardangerfjord – by bike

Hardangerfjord Round – a cycling experience you will remember!

Hardanger has perhaps Western Norway's most beautiful, lush, and fertile fjord landscape. On this tour, you will experience it from the bicycle seat – along the fjord, through small villages, and past orchards with the mountains as a backdrop.

In the spring, you can experience the beautiful blossoming season, with the hillsides white and pink with fruit blossoms. Late summer and early autumn offer a completely different experience. Then the orchards are bursting with ripe apples and other fruit – and perhaps you must try a juicy Hardanger apple along the way …

You cycle along the famous Hardangerfjord for three days, mainly on roads with little traffic, in a landscape where fjord and mountain fight for your attention.

Start and finish in Eidfjord

You can easiest get to Eidfjord by your own car. There are good parking facilities here.

This is a tour most people with normal cycling fitness can participate in. Along the way, great cycling experiences, local food, and – perhaps most of all – fantastic Norwegian nature await you.

Quick facts about the trip

You make your own way to the starting point in Eidfjord. The tour also ends here.

The first day features very varied terrain with a gentle start along the fjord. After a break in Ulvik, there is a demanding climb on winding roads over the mountain, past the Espelandsfossen waterfall, and further down towards Granvin.

The second day you follow the fjord all day, passing through Øystese and Norheimsund, among other places, and down to the ferry in Tørviksbygd. Stop along the way for a delicious lunch. You then take the ferry over to Jondal and the hotel of the day.The cycle path between Jondal and Utne.
The lush Hardanger landscape – with fjord, mountains, and fruit orchards.
Fruit blossom in spring and ripe apples in late summer and early autumn.
The sense of achievement after three days and around 200 kilometers on the bike.

On the third day, you cycle along the fjord where the road passes many of the Hardangerfjord's idyllic apple farms. The terrain is gently undulating, with a few slightly longer climbs. But, still moderately demanding in terms of length and total elevation gain. After the ferry from Utne to Kinsarvik, you follow the fjord further back past the Hardanger Bridge and on towards Eidfjord. You have now cycled all the way around the fjord!

The stages are approx. 60 km on the first day, approx. 70 km on the second day, and approx. 70 km on the final day.

You will stay overnight in Granvin and Jondal, at cozy, family-run "Hardangerfjord hotels". The last day ends with dinner in Eidfjord, before you change and head home on your own.

Luggage transport, accommodation, and all meals are included in the price.
You bring your own bike, as well as cycling clothes and leisure wear for the evenings. See the suggested packing list further down the page.
