The Hardangerfjord round trip by bicycle

Around the Hardangerfjord - by bike

Hardangerfjord Round – a cycling experience to remember!

Hardangerfjord Round is an exciting cycling experience.
Hardanger has perhaps Western Norway's most beautiful, lush, and fertile fjord landscape. We recommend this trip in May or August. If you join in May, you will, hopefully, experience the beautiful blossoming season. With hillsides white and pink from all the fruit blossoms. One of spring's most beautiful fairy tales.
If you choose August, the same hillsides are full of colorful fruit. Then you MUST taste some of the juicy, sun-ripened apples…
On this tour, you cycle along the famous fjord for three days. On roads with little traffic, and in a landscape where fjord and mountains fight for your attention.

Start in Eidfjord

You start and finish the tour in Eidfjord. You can easily reach the starting point in Eidfjord with your own car. Good parking options!

This will be a trip where most people with normal cycling fitness can participate. Experience some of the best Norway has to offer – from the bicycle seat.
There will be great cycling experiences, homemade, local food, but perhaps most of all, fantastic Norwegian nature.

Quick facts about the trip

You make your own way to the starting point in Eidfjord. The tour also ends here.

The first day features highly varied terrain with a gentle start along the fjord. After a break in Ulvik, there is a demanding climb on winding roads over the mountain, past Espelandsfossen, and further down towards Granvin.

On the second day, you follow the fjord all day, passing through Øystese, Norheimsund, and down to the ferry in Tørviksbygd. Stop along the way for a delicious lunch. A beautiful ferry trip over to Jondal and today's hotel.

On the third day, you cycle along the fjord where the road passes many of the Hardangerfjord's idyllic apple orchards. The terrain is gently rolling, with some slightly longer climbs. However, it is still moderately demanding in terms of length and total elevation gain. After the ferry from Utne to Kinsarvik, you follow the fjord further back past the Hardanger Bridge and onward to Eidfjord. You have now cycled around the entire fjord!

The stages are approximately 60 km on the first day, about 70 km on the second day, and about 70 km on the last day.

You will stay overnight in Granvin and in Jondal, at cozy, family-friendly "Hardangerfjord hotels". The final day ends with dinner in Eidfjord, before you change and travel home on your own.

Luggage transport, accommodation, and all meals are included in the price.
You bring your own bike, as well as cycling clothes and casual wear for the evenings. See the suggested packing list further down the page.
