Trip at a glance
We have planned a week of varied hikes in some of the Dolomites' most impressive mountain areas. Here, everything awaits—from green alpine meadows and pleasant mountain huts to steep mountain passes, dramatic limestone peaks, and views we won't soon forget!
The hikes last about 4–6 hours, and we expect to spend most of the day outdoors. We will mainly hike at altitudes between approximately 1,500 and 2,700 meters above sea level, on trails and gravel paths across varied and partly steep terrain.
On several days, we will use mountain lifts to reach higher elevations, allowing us to spend more of the day on the mountain hike itself. However, we will also cover plenty of vertical meters on our own two feet! Some of the hikes feature longer ascents and steep descents, so it is an advantage to be accustomed to hiking in the mountains.
We will be high above sea level, and some may feel the altitude, especially during the first few days. Therefore, we take our time along the way, with breaks for enjoying the views, taking photos, and having something good to eat.
Who is this trip suitable for?
This trip is suitable for those of us who enjoy being active and thrive on long days out in the mountains.
We don't need to be mountain goats, but we should have good basic fitness, be used to walking on uneven terrain, and be able to handle both ascents and steep descents. Certain sections follow narrow mountain paths, and good footwear is essential.
The reward along the way? Mountain huts serving Italian specialties, impressive views, and that wonderful feeling of arriving after a proper mountain hike!
Option for Via Ferrata
On the rest day, we can choose to join an exciting Via Ferrata—a mountain adventure where we move along secured climbing routes equipped with steel cables and other safety gear.
This is an opportunity for those of us looking for an extra challenge who want to experience the Dolomites from a slightly different perspective.
The activity is led by a local guide, and options are arranged for both beginners and those who have tried Via Ferrata before.
Registration takes place when booking the trip.
Time to enjoy Val Gardena
Even though we have a rich itinerary, there will also be time to enjoy the surroundings on your own.
Perhaps you'll be tempted by a stroll through Selva di Val Gardena, an Italian coffee at a charming café, or a few relaxing hours in the hotel's wellness area?
On the rest day, we can also choose other activities, such as an extra hike, mountain biking, or simply a quiet day with our feet up.
We stay at the family-run Hotel Piccolo in Selva di Val Gardena, a welcoming base for the entire week in the mountains.
We will have dinner together at the hotel's restaurant, while lunches will be enjoyed on the go—either as a packed lunch or at one of the many cozy mountain huts.
Local buses and transport in Val Gardena
We use the local buses to reach several of the starting points for the hikes.
As guests at Hotel Piccolo, we receive a Val Gardena Guest Pass, which grants free use of the standard local buses in Val Gardena and a large part of the public transport network in South Tyrol.
The pass can also be used for independent excursions, such as to Bolzano on the rest day. Certain special routes are not included.
Mountain lifts are not included in this pass and are paid for separately where indicated in the daily itinerary.
Traveling solo?
Traveling solo doesn't mean you have to be alone. On our trips, we meet others who share the joy of active days, fresh mountain air, and wonderful experiences.
The atmosphere is informal and inclusive, making it easy to connect as we share ascents, lunch breaks, and enjoyable dinners together.
Our trips are just as well suited for those traveling solo as for those traveling with a companion. You will be part of the group from day one!
