Yoga trip to Kalymnos – island life and experiences in Greece

Yoga and Greek island life with Mette & Lene

A week with room for both activity and tranquility

Join Mette & Lene on a yoga trip to beautiful Kalymnos – a Greek island with crystal clear sea, small beaches, mountains, white churches, great restaurants, and a very special tranquility.

We stay in Myrties, overlooking the small island of Telendos and some of the most beautiful sunsets Kalymnos has to offer.

This will be a week of yoga, movement, hiking, great meals, and Greek island life – but also with plenty of time to just be.

We want this to be a holiday where you get both a high-quality and varied yoga program, and at the same time have time for yourself. Some days we have multiple yoga sessions, other days we plan for excursions and experiences.

Between activities, the time is yours – for the beach, a book in the shade, a trip to a small village, or perhaps a scooter ride around the island.

📍Where is Kalymnos?
Kalymnos is located in the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea, between Kos and Leros and just off the coast of Turkey. The island is one of the smaller Greek islands, with mountains, small beaches, and villages scattered along the coast. Right outside Myrties lies small, car-free Telendos – just a short boat ride away.

Small adventures between yoga sessions

Yoga is an important part of the trip, but Kalymnos and the surrounding islands also offer plenty to experience. We will go hiking, experience the sunset from the small island of Telendos, and enjoy great meals along the way.

Kalymnos is also known as a paradise for climbers. If you want to try, it is possible to book a guide in advance – whether you are a beginner or have climbed before.

And in between yoga, hiking, and experiences?

Then, it is holiday time.

This is how the days on Kalymnos will be

Throughout the week, we alternate between yoga, shared experiences, and plenty of free time on your own. Some days we have several things on the schedule, other days we let the Greek island life take center stage.

On Telendos, we walk up to Agios Konstantinos, where it is not only the view that awaits at the top. Here we find the ruins of a fortified Byzantine settlement that was put into use from around the 500s/600s, when the residents sought refuge in the mountains to protect themselves from attacks from the sea. There are still remnants of houses, defensive walls, and old cisterns – and the small white chapel sits on the remains of a much older church.

After the hike, we have lunch together down on Telendos. From there, you can choose whether you want to stay on the island for a swim or some quiet hours, or take the boat back to Myrties.

When we visit Telendos again later in the week, the pace is completely different. Then we walk across the island in the evening sun and up to a small church where we find a spot and watch the sun disappear into the Aegean Sea. Afterwards, those who wish can stay behind and have dinner at one of the small restaurants along the water before the boat goes back to Myrties.

We stay at Nefeli in Myrties

Nefeli is not a large luxury hotel, but a small, simple, and charming place with exactly the Greek atmosphere we want for this trip.

You live in a double room, and a shared double room is included in the price of the trip. If you want a larger room or a single room, you can contact us for information about options and surcharges.

One of the things we like best about Nefeli is the lush garden, full of flowers. Here we start the day with morning yoga and gather for breakfast afterwards. Later in the day, the garden is also a pleasant place to settle down – Nefeli is, among other things, known for its good and colorful drinks.

The Breakfast

Every morning, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, honey, chopped nuts, freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee or tea are served. A simple and delicious start to the day – in the garden, after the morning yoga.

Yoga with Mette & Lene

Yoga is an important part of the trip, but this should also be a vacation.

Every morning we start the day together on the mat. In addition, we schedule some yoga sessions midday and some evening sessions throughout the week.

The sessions will vary in both content and intensity. Some will be dynamic and energizing, others calm with a focus on mobility, breath, relaxation, and presence.

You do not need to be experienced in yoga to join. Mette and Lene plan the sessions so that you can adapt them to your own body, daily form, and experience – and of course, you choose for yourself which sessions you wish to participate in.

Some days there will be a lot on the schedule. Other days less. And between yoga, hiking, meals, and shared experiences, there should still be plenty of time for what is perhaps the finest part of a week on a small Greek island:

To have no plans at all.

When you have time on your own

Between the shared activities, there is plenty of time to explore Kalymnos on your own – or just find a beach and stay there.

Beach life

In Massouri you will find a larger and livelier sandy beach, with shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby.

Around Myrties there are also smaller pebble beaches with a calmer atmosphere. Here you can place your towel on the beach or rent a sunbed, and there are small bars and restaurants nearby.

Experience Kalymnos on a scooter

Renting a scooter is a great way to experience more of the island. Kalymnos is easy to navigate, and in one day you can easily manage a round trip with several stops along the way.

The road takes you through mountain landscapes with goats and beehives, small villages, beaches, and great viewpoints.

Take a trip to Pothia

Pothia is the capital and largest port town on Kalymnos. Here it is livelier and a bit more hectic than in Myrties, with shopping streets, cafes, and restaurants around the harbor.

Find a cafe, stroll through the streets, or sit down with something good to eat and watch life go by.

Vathy

On the other side of the island lies Vathy, surrounded by a lush valley that stands in stark contrast to the otherwise barren mountain landscape of Kalymnos.

A great destination for a day trip on a scooter.

Activities, transport, scooter rental, sunbeds, and food and drinks on your own are not included in the price of the trip.
