Tour de Trollstigen with Romsdalseggen

Tour de Trollstigen / Geiranger – a cycling experience you will remember for a long time!

Spectacular cycling trip

This is a bike tour we know many have on their "bucket list". The nature in Romsdalen offers great adventures and experiences, and is so beautiful and spectacular that it takes most people's breath away. It doesn't matter if you sign up alone or with someone – we will become a great, close-knit group on these trips anyway!

The route goes from Dombås - Åndalsnes - Trollstigen - Geiranger - Dalsnibba - Lom.

Spectacular hike

The trip starts at Dombås and continues down to beautiful Åndalsnes. The next day we stay in Åndalsnes to hike perhaps Norway's most spectacular hike – Romsdalseggen with Rampestreken!
You can of course choose to cycle this day as well, but we highly recommend this spectacular hike. Alternatively, you can cycle half the day and walk up to Rampestreken in the afternoon. Either way, it will be an exciting and active day!

The trip then continues up the epic Trollstigen, and on to Geiranger for an overnight stay at the classic Hotel Union.
On the last day, we cycle from Geiranger to Lom, also here in fantastically beautiful surroundings.
For those who are really fit, there is the opportunity to try the climb to the top of Dalsnibba, 1500 meters above sea level. A demanding but legendary climb.

We hope to experience some of the best Norway has to offer together with you – from the bike saddle and on foot along Romsdalseggen. There will be camaraderie, great cycling and hiking experiences in a very special natural setting.

A bus, possibly a support vehicle, will follow us the whole trip. In other words, you have the opportunity to choose a shorter distance than what we originally planned, although we of course hope that the whole group manages to cycle all the stages.
Maximum 20 participants on this trip, and we will probably split into smaller groups along the way. Both with regard to the participants' physical fitness, but also with regard to any traffic.

Expa Travel is the technical organizer of the trip.

Quick facts about the trip

Dombås is the starting point for this trip. The easiest way to get there is by train. The support car will then follow us on all stages, which are approx. 100 km + 90 km + 80 km.

  • Day 1 offers relatively flat terrain with a lot of downhill.
Day 2 you can choose whether you want to hike what is perhaps Norway's most spectacular hike – Romsdalseggen. On this hike, we will pass Rampestreken near the end. This is a full-day hike of approx. 6 hours. OR if you wish to only hike up to Rampestreken, approx. 2.5 hours, relatively straight up and down, so it is demanding enough. If you would rather bike on this day as well, you can easily cycle on your own around the fjord towards Ersfjord. Superb trip!

  • Day 3 and 4 you must expect approx. 1500 meters of elevation gain per day on the bike.

The itinerary will then be roughly as follows:

  • Day 1:
Transport on your own to the starting point Dombås.
Cycling Dombås – Åndalsnes, approx. 100 km. Overnight stay at Grand Hotel Bellevue Åndalsnes.

  • Day 2: Hiking Romsdalseggen / Rampestreken or cycling. Overnight stay at Grand Hotel Bellevue Åndalsnes.

  • Day 3:
Cycling Åndalsnes – Trollstigen – (Linge ferry quay) – Geiranger, approx. 90 km / 1600 meters of elevation gain.
Overnight stay at Hotel Union Geiranger.

  • Day 4:
Cycling Geiranger – Dalsnibba – Lom, approx. 80 km. Transport to Otta to catch the train home.

This is intended as an experiential trip, where social cohesion and great nature experiences will be the most important factors. Feel free to sign up on your own; experience shows we always become a tight-knit group after a few hours on wheels together!

Since we cycle from Thursday to Sunday afternoon, and because there are probably still quite a few tourists on holiday in August, we must expect some traffic. We will likely split into smaller groups so as not to cause 'traffic jams' along the roads and to allow you to cycle at your own pace.

Accommodation, support car, guide, and all meals are included in the price. Transport on the departure day from Lom to the train station in Otta is also included. You only arrange your own train tickets to Dombås / from Otta, and bring your own bike, cycling clothes, and casual clothes for the evenings.

Expectations of you as a participant

  • You cycle on a road racer or possibly a hybrid bike / e-bike.

  • You are comfortable with elevation gains and the length of the stages.

  • You are comfortable cycling on busy roads.

  • You are prepared to cycle in varying weather, both gear-wise and physically (we hope for good weather…).

  • You enjoy being on a trip, appreciating nature and the experiences from the bike seat.

Who is this trip suitable for

As a participant, you must expect daily stages of approx. 100 km with 1500-1600 meters of elevation gain.
Considering the landscape and elevation / number of km, it is important that you have cycled a bit beforehand. But it is of course allowed to push yourself toward something you may not have done before.
There is also space in the support car if needed.
We will likely split into groups according to level. Experience shows that a little preparation will make the experience of the trip even better…

Fottur over Romsdalseggen og Rampestreken | Expa Travel

This day we walk one of the most spectacular hikes in Norway. We take the bus from Åndalsnes to Vengedalssetra. A bus trip of approx. 20 min. The hike, which starts from the parking lot, takes approx. 5-7 hours. It is a lot uphill from the start and all the way to the ridge. Weather permitting, we recommend taking the short extra trip from the ridge up to Blånebba. 360-degree views that will take your breath away.

From the top, we follow Romsdalseggen towards Åndalsnes, and with only 1.5 kilometers to go, we reach Rampestreken, where the obligatory photo must be taken 😃
The descent to Åndalsnes, from the top and past Rampestreken, can be demanding, so we recommend taking your time.

Packed lunch from the hotel is enjoyed along the way (included).

If you want a shorter tour, but still with fantastic views, you walk from the hotel directly up to Rampestreken. A trip of approx. 2.5 hours total. It is straight up, and straight down, approx. 400 meters of elevation. The ramp is 20m long and extends 8m out into thin air, hanging several meters above ground level. From the viewpoint, you can see Isfjorden, Åndalsnes, and towering mountain formations. BEAUTIFUL!

If you want to cycle this day too, we recommend the route around Isfjorden towards Eresfjord. Nice climb in Vistdal.

It is also perfectly fine to enjoy the day and take it completely easy in cozy Åndalsnes.
