Cycling holiday along the romantic Rhine

Cycling holiday along the Rhine – on your own

Unforgettable cycling trip along the majestic Rhine – from Frankfurt to Cologne

On this trip, you will get close to both history and culture – all while cycling. It can almost feel a bit like an expedition, where adventure and history merge as you pass grand castles, mighty fortresses, and timeless churches that tell centuries of history.
Many of the sights are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The relatively flat stages also pass by many vineyards along the way, so perhaps you will stop to taste the local grape?

Kodak moments
The Rhine is truly full of life, with many busy ports bustling with both small and large vessels. It is a beautiful landscape all the way, but perhaps especially in the captivating Middle Rhine Valley. Many Kodak moments there!
We highly recommend trying the local cuisine; based on experience, it is a gastronomic delight.

Luggage transport

Your luggage is transported from hotel to hotel, so you can cycle light and free – and the daily stages are manageable for everyone in normal physical shape. If you want an electric bike, that of course is possible.
Everything is arranged by us – routes, hotels, and luggage transport – so you can focus on the cycling and your days along the way.

At the end of the trip, in Koblenz, it is easy to take public transport back to the airport in Frankfurt.

This trip runs over 7 days / 6 nights.

Who is this trip suitable for

The stages on this tour are on flat terrain, on a cycle path, almost the entire way. This is "holiday cycling" at its very best. An adventure tour in a fantastic, beautiful landscape and through cozy towns. On this trip too, the experiences along the way will be just as important as the cycling.

The daily stages are between 42 – 61 km per day, so you do not need extensive cycling preparation. Anyone in normally good shape, and with good health, can enjoy this trip. If you are unsure of your fitness level, an e-bike is a very good option.
If you want to take a day on your own to relax, and perhaps get some sun & swimming, instead of what is on the program, you of course have the opportunity to do so along the way.

Day 4Oberwesel to Koblenz

Loreley-klippen i Rhinen - sykkeltur langs Rhinen | Expa Travel

Today you cycle along the western, left bank of the Rhine, with a view of the legendary Loreley rock. Lorelei (or Loreley) is a 132-meter-high, legendary slate rock on the east bank of the Rhine near St. Goarshausen in Germany. The rock marks one of the narrowest and most dangerous parts of the river, known for strong currents and hidden rocks that previously caused many shipwrecks. The area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and is famous for the legend of the beautiful woman Lorelei who sang sailors to their deaths.

You cycle further to Boppard, where we recommend a chairlift ride to the viewpoint "Vierseenblick", which offers an outstanding view of the Rhine (not included).

Eventually you reach today's destination: Koblenz. Where the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress rules over the city. A cable car connects the Old Town to the fortress. We recommend the trip, as well as seeing more of 'Deutsches Eck' (The German Corner), a famous spit of land in Koblenz, located where the Moselle river flows into the Rhine. This landmark is known for the 37-meter-high equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm I, and serves as a symbol of German unity. The area is one of UNESCO's world heritage sites and a popular tourist destination.

We recommend a stop at the Remagen Bridge (Ludendorff Bridge), where the remains of the famous towers now stand as a testament to history. They also house a fascinating peace museum.

On the right side of the Rhine, Bad Honnef welcomes you, with its charming pedestrian zone and busy town square featuring a series of inviting cafes. Perhaps you stop for a coffee or lunch here? (not included).

Presumably, the Siebengebirge mountain range will catch your attention eventually. And if you wish and have time, you can take the ferry ride over to Königswinter (recommended!).
