Hiking in Val Gardena, the Dolomites 2027

Spectacular hikes around Sassolungo and across Seiser Alm

Adventures in the Dolomites, around Sassolungo & across Seiser Alm

Seiser Alm and the Dolomites attract visitors from all over the world. Here we find wonderfully beautiful mountains, spectacular views and cozy mountain huts located in places 'where no one would believe anyone could live'.
On this trip, we combine spectacular hikes in the unique Dolomites with delicious local food & drinks

For our accommodation this time, we have chosen the cozy family-run Hotel Piccolo. A charming place with good standards, personal service and, last but not least, fantastic food.

Our tour leader Anne Grethe T. Vestrheim, who incidentally LOVES the Dolomites, will take you on new hikes every day. The day trips take place at altitude, between approx. 1500 – 3000 meters above sea level. This means it goes without saying that both the views and the experiences will be truly special!

Quick facts about the trip

The hikes last 4-6 hours and take place in hilly terrain at an altitude of between 1500 – 3000 meters above sea level. We expect to spend most of the day out hiking. We will probably feel the altitude a bit regardless of our daily form, but we will quickly adapt. Most days we start by taking the mountain lift up the first approx. 1000 meters of elevation. We do the same in the afternoons when we are heading back down.

One of the days you can choose whether you want to join an exciting and unforgettable Via Ferrata. We start at the Sella pass where the Via Ferrata Sassolungo Forecella begins. Simply a magical experience. If there are many of us who want to climb, we will divide into two groups; one slightly easier for beginners and one slightly tougher for those who may have climbed before.
You register for the excursion when booking the trip. There will be an additional cost of NOK 2050,-.

Every day there will be some free time in the afternoons / evenings. This can be used for e.g. sightseeing in the town. Or simply relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings around the hotel in the town of Selva di Val Gardena / Wolkenstein

We eat dinners in the hotel's restaurant, and lunches will be a packed lunch brought along or at a rifugio/mountain cabin.

Local bus

The local bus takes us to the different starting points for the hikes – the best option. The local buses are free as long as we stay at a hotel in Val Gardena. All participants will receive a 'Gardenacard' from the hotel, and by showing this you can take the bus for free during your entire stay. This card also applies if you want to take the bus to Bolzano or Passo Pordoi on the "day off".

Are you traveling alone?

Traveling alone does not mean you have to be alone. On our trips you meet like-minded people who share the joy of active trips. The atmosphere is informal and inclusive, and it is easy to connect with new hiking friends. Our trips are just as suitable for you who go solo, as for those who travel with others. So sign up – you will be part of the group from the very first moment!

Day 5Rest Day with Opportunity for Own Activities

Via Ferrata i Dolomittene - må testes! | Expa Travel

After three eventful mountain hikes in the Dolomites, it's time for a day with an optional program. All activities on this day are optional and are booked and paid for by the individual.

Perhaps some quiet hours in the hotel's spa department appeal to you? Here you can loosen up tired muscles in the pool or relax in the steam room. Treatments are booked at the reception.

If you want to spend the rest day outdoors, the area offers almost unlimited possibilities. Maybe this is the day you take the lift up to beautiful Seceda? The iconic mountain ridge has become one of the Dolomites' most photographed spots, and many make the trip here. If you walk a little further than the most famous viewpoint, you often get both quieter surroundings and views that are at least as spectacular. Tour guide Anne Grethe is happy to share her best tips if you want an extra mountain hike.

You can also rent a mountain bike and explore the many prepared MTB tracks in the area, book a paragliding trip and experience the Dolomites from the air, or try via ferrata with a local guide. Separate groups are offered both for beginners and for those who have tried via ferrata before. Anne Grethe will inform you about the options after arrival.

If you prefer a quieter experience, it is also fascinating to sit down with a cup of coffee and watch the paragliders float silently between the dramatic mountain peaks.

Joint dinner in the hotel's restaurant (included).

A nice and gentle start to the day to the Heilig Kreuz chapel, with a slightly steeper hill up to Heilig Kreuz with a view of Austria. We move along the edge, but not right on the edge of course. We walk a few kilometers along before we have lunch at the Brogles Hut below the Geisler Group (not included). Then we look straight at the Seceda chain - perhaps the most photographed area in Val Gardena.

Today we hope to meet marmots, because we are walking in a typical 'marmot landscape'. Perhaps we will also see 'wild horses' and donkeys in the area.

After lunch we walk down the Anna Valley to Ortisei. Those who wish can take the Seceda lift down to the town (not included). Once down, perhaps there will be an after-walk here or a bit of shopping?
