Hiking tips in the north: Hovsundet – only on foot, but worth every step!
Just outside Bodø, you'll find Hovsundet – a hidden gem with powder-white sand, turquoise water, and mountains reflecting in the sea. Between the island of Litlhovden and the mainland, you'll find a narrow sandbank forming a white beach – a spectacular sight you can only find here.
You can't drive all the way – this place has to be earned
Quick facts about the trip
The hike starts from the parking lot at Hovden (Mulstrand/Mjelle). From here, a clear but unmarked trail goes past Auvika and further over rocks and cliffs. Estimate about 45–60 minutes one way (8 km round trip, total about 3 hours). The terrain is hilly and requires you to be prepared for a rough trail.
This is North Norwegian nature at its absolute best – and yes, we have drone footage to prove it. Press play on the video below and dream yourself away – maybe this will be the most beautiful detour of the summer
